Dushanbe Will Host CSTO PA Council Meeting Today

DUSHANBE, 01.07.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, Dushanbe will host a meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO PA).

Delegations of the CSTO PA member states arrived in Dushanbe yesterday evening.

The meeting will be chaired by the Speaker of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin. It will be attended by the Chairman of the National Assembly of Tajikistan Rustam Emomali, the Chairman of the Armenian Parliament, speakers of the lower chambers of the parliaments of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan (CSTO observer state), the head of the Serbian parliament (an observer state), as well as the CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas and CSTO PA Executive Secretary Sergey Pospelov.

Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Askar Shakirov, Chairman of the Assembly of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin will take part in the meeting via videoconference.

The meeting agenda includes issues of harmonization of national legislations of the member states in the period 2021-2025. Additionally, the parties intend to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

In the morning, the heads of parliamentary delegations of the CSTO PA member states will meet with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. Then they will take part in a flower-laying ceremony at the Ismail Somoni monument.

Additionally, the Speaker of the State Duma is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with the Chairman of the National Assembly Rustam Emomali and the Speaker of Afghanistan’s House of the People Mir Rahman Rahmani.

The CSTO PA Council organizes the activities of the assembly and consists of the chairmen of parliaments (chairmen of the chambers of parliaments) of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. Currently, the CSTO PA is chaired by the Speaker of the State Duma.
