Minister of Economic Development and Trade Holds Online Meeting with the IDB Regional Director for Central Asia

DUSHANBE, 14.07.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda held an online meeting with the Regional Director of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for Central Asia Ibrahim Shoukry.
Zavkizoda noted that Tajikistan’s cooperation with the IDB is developing in priority economic areas, including energy, transport, agriculture, health and education, and the bank’s funding in these areas is $ 622.7 million.
Zavkizoda also conveyed the government’s gratitude to the IDB for its financial and technical support in the socio-economic development of Tajikistan, and noted that cooperation with the IDB is of particular importance for Tajikistan.
With the IDB’s financing in Tajikistan, 26 projects worth $ 248.5 million are currently being implemented, and another 16 projects worth $ 190 million are under consideration by the parties.
Minister Zavkizoda said that in order to ensure macroeconomic stability, reduce the dependence of the national economy on external factors, and to increase the competitiveness of products and diversify production, the medium-term development program of Tajikistan for 2021-2025, state program for the development of exports for 2021- 2025, and medium-term program for the development of the digital economy for 2021-2025 have been submitted for consideration to the government.
They noted the advisability of expanding cooperation with the IDB by investing in the development of the digital economy and the green economy, to increase production, expand the pharmaceutical industry, financial markets, logistics centers, and other priority sectors of the economy.
They also discussed the development of macroeconomic models for analyzing the socio-economic development of the country.
Following the meeting, Zavkizoda expressed the readiness of the government to further expand cooperation in various fields.
