Dushanbe Hosts an International Conference on SCO’s 20th Anniversary

DUSHANBE, 20.08.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Today, the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan held an international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) entitled “SCO’s Twenty Years: From a Regional Forum to Global Recognition” via videoconference. The conference was organized within Tajikistan’s presidency in the SCO.
Attendees discussed achievements and prospects for development of cooperation, SCO’s role in deepening relations of good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation in the region, as well as SCO and prospects for regional security.
Additionally, the participants discussed strengthening cooperation between SCO members in trade, financial and investment spheres, expanding cooperation in the transport, energy, and agricultural spheres in the SCO space, and developing cooperation in education, culture and science within the SCO.
Participants of the international scientific conference shared their views on the presentations and assessed the status and prospects for further development of SCO activities.
Also, the participants noted the importance of coordination, exchange of information and mutual assistance in order to eliminate negative social and economic consequences of the pandemic, collective countering to terrorism and extremism in the region, strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation in political, trade and economic and security spheres, as well as effective realization of economic, transport and transit, cultural, educational and tourist potential of the SCO member states.
The Director of the Center for Strategic Studies Khurshed Ziyoyi summed up and closed the conference and expressed hope that the event would facilitate strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation among the SCO member-states.
