The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with the Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who is in Dushanbe to take part in a session of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The officials discussed the future prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and India with an emphasis on trade, energy, investment, military, and other fields.
President Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the level of political contacts between Tajikistan and India, and mutual trust between the two friendly countries.
They reviewed prospects for expanded cooperation in the fight against international terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and organized crime.
The parties continued their discussion on boosting bilateral ties within the framework of regional and international organizations, including within the UN and SCO.
The two sides exchanged views on the developing military and political situation in Afghanistan. President Rahmon stressed that Tajikistan is committed to the speedy restoration of peace and stability in this neighboring country.Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
