Central Asian Agriculture Ministers Discuss Climate Change

DUSHANBE, 04.11.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Climate change is one of the main problems facing the agricultural sector of all Central Asian countries. In agriculture, the sources of hazards related to weather and climate are many and varied, for example, those brought on by limited water resources, drought, desertification, land degradation, erosion, hail, floods, early frosts, and other factors. This was noted on November 2 during an online meeting of the ministers of Central Asian countries titled “The Impact of Climate Change and Emergencies on Agriculture.»
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan Sulaymon Ziyozoda in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN FAO).
The meeting was also attended by the Central Asian Ministers of Agriculture, including Erbol Karashukeyev from Kazakhstan, Askarbek Janibekov from Kyrgyzstan, Jamshid Khojaev from Uzbekistan, as well as the Deputy Director General of the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia Vladimir Rakhmanin.
The purpose of the meeting was to study and exchange experience between Central Asian countries in relation to the impact of climate change and emergencies on agriculture.
The meeting focused on a number of issues related to bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture and climate change.
