EU Delegation Visits Norak HPP

DUSHANBE, 24.11.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen along with a EU delegation visited the Norak hydropower plant.
The purpose of the visit was to present the water resources and the hydropower potential of Tajikistan.
The EU delegation expressed its interest in further strengthening cooperation between Tajikistan and the EU in the areas of green economy, energy, climate change, and water issues.
Borrell and Urpilainen are in Tajikistan on an official visit to attend a meeting of Central Asian and EU foreign ministers, which was held on November 22 in Dushanbe.
Named after Tursun Uljabaev, the Norak HPP is located on the Vakhsh River. Its construction began in 1961. The first hydraulic unit was commissioned in 1972, and the last in 1979. Nine hydraulic units with a capacity of 300,000 kW have been installed at the Norak HPP. The total installed capacity of the plant is 3,000 MW.
