Deputy FM Receives Core Group on Preparation for 2023 UN Water Conference

DUSHANBE, 02.02.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On January 31, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sharaf Sheralizoda received the Core Group members on “Road to the 2023 UN Water Conference,» including the Special Envoy for International Water Affairs the Netherlands Henk Ovink, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Tajikistan Andre Carstens, and representatives of the UN structural organizations.
Sheralizoda emphasized the importance of President Rahmon’s international initiatives on water and climate change in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, in particular the SDG 6 and other water-related goals, noting that the promotion of the Dushanbe Water Process within the framework of the International Conference on Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028” is an active continuation of Tajikistan’s efforts to find effective solutions to global problems.
The parties noted that the Second High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028,» under the title “Catalyzing Water Action and Partnership at the Local, National, Regional and Global Levels” will held from June 6 through June 9 this year in Dushanbe, and it will serve as the central link in the joint work of Tajikistan and the Netherlands on the global water agenda for the preparation of the 2023 UN Water Conference.
The parties also exchanged views on subsequent joint meetings and presentation of the tasks of the Second Dushanbe Conference and the 2023 UN Water Conference within the framework of international and regional events and other issues of mutual interest.
The meetings of the Core Group members on “Road to the UN 2023 Water Conference” are taking place in Dushanbe from January 31 through February 2, followed by the Press Conference on the Second Dushanbe Water Conference and UN 2023 Water Conference.
