DUSHANBE, 25.02.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko who is in Tajikistan on an official visit.

He also attended in the VII Parliamentary Forum Tajikistan – Russia: Potential for Interregional Cooperation.

The discussion focused on the current state and further prospects of friendly relations between Tajikistan and Russia in priority areas, as well as inter-parliamentary ties.

While expressing satisfaction with the high-level cooperation between the two countries and the Tajik – Russian inter-parliamentary ties, President Rahmon praised Matviyenko’s personal contribution to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

They also exchanged views on the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Tajikistan-Russian Inter-parliamentary Forum, which drive the development of strategic partnership.

The discussion also focused on trade and economic cooperation, attraction of Russian investments into the economy of Tajikistan, especially at the regional level.

Both sides touched upon the development of the Russian language, as well as construction of secondary schools with Russian-language lessons and the inclusion of Russian-speaking teachers and the allocation of scholarships for Tajik citizens.

They also spoke about certain topics on the international agenda, including the rapidly changing political situation in the world, the escalation of conflicts, and the situation linked with the developments in Afghanistan.
