DUSHANBE, 15.02.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – In 2021, Tajikistan exported more than 2.4 billion kWh of electricity, which is 911.6 million kWh more than in 2020. This was stated yesterday at a press conference by the Chairman of the OJSHC Barki Tojik Mahmadumar Asozoda.
According to him, the main buyers of electricity in 2021 were Afghanistan, which imported 1 billion 275.2 million kWh in the amount of 635.9 million somoni, and Uzbekistan which purchased 1 billion 146.8 million kWh in the amount of 258.8 million somoni. Of the $33 million owed in January, Afghanistan paid $2 million and $4 million in February. This year, Tajikistan will export electricity to Afghanistan at the 2021 price.
“In order to ensure the uninterrupted supply of socio-economic facilities and the population of the country with electricity, Barki Tojik purchased more than 4.4 billion kWh of electricity in 2021 for a total of over 1.5 billion somoni, which is 143.3 million hours, or 176 million somoni more compared to 2020. Electricity was generated by the Sangtuda-1, Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plants and the Rogun HPP JSC,” Asozoda noted.
Revenues from electricity exports in 2021 reached 404.6 million somoni, which is 232.6 million somoni less than in 2020. The main reason for this was the unstable political situation in Afghanistan.
