Tajikistan Prepares to Hold Global Water Events

DUSHANBE, 03.02.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, a briefing dedicated to the Second High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028» entitled “Catalyzing water action and partnerships on local, national, regional and global levels” (Dushanbe, June 6-9, 2022) and the UN Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018–2028 (New York, March 22-24, 2023) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the participation of the heads of diplomatic missions, international organizations, international financial institutions and the press.
The head of the Secretariat of the Conference, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea Sulton Rahimzoda and the Special Envoy of the Netherlands for International Water Affairs Hank Ovink presented the plans and goals of the Second Dushanbe Water Decade Conference and the 2023 UN Water Conference.
During the presentations, Tajikistan’s efforts over the past two decades to promote water issues on the World Development Agenda were noted, and the fact that eight resolutions of the UN General Assembly on water issues initiated by Tajikistan were unanimously adopted confirms the importance of the issues raised.
Currently, President Emomali Rahmon’s fourth initiative on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028” is being implemented at the national, regional and global levels.
The Second Dushanbe International Conference entitled “Catalyzing water action and partnership at the local, national, regional and global levels,» will be held from June 6 through June 9, 2022 and is being considered as an important global event in preparation for the United Nations Conference on the Midterm Comprehensive Review of the Implementation of the Objectives of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028” in 2023 in New York.
The 2023 UN Water Conference will be held from March 22 through March 24 in New York under the chairmanship of Tajikistan and the Netherlands.
The conference is the first UN Water Conference of its kind since the 1977 High Level Water Conference in Mar del Plata.
