DUSHANBE, 23.05.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Zhang Ming.

The current state and prospects of multilateral cooperation between SCO member nations and the course of implementation of the plans reached within SCO were the focus of the discussion.

While expressing satisfaction with the fruitful activity of the SCO over the past 20 years, in particular, taking into account the results of the SCO jubilee Summit held in Dushanbe, President  Rahmon wished the new SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming every success in his work.

The parties exchanged views on the practical implementation of the SCO Development Strategy until 2025, and the Dushanbe Declaration of the 20th SCO Anniversary and the  Programme of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation of the SCO Member States.

Attention was also paid to the Plan of Priority Practical Measures for 2021-2022 to overcome the socio-economic consequences of the pandemic.

The parties also touched upon the multilateral agenda, including SCO ministerial meeting of industry and energy, as well as the proposal of Tajikistan to develop and adopt a SCO Economic Development Strategy until 2030.

Other issues related to the efforts to enhance stability in the region, as well as combat the fight against terrorism, extremism, information security, and the fight against cybercrime, and Tajikistan’s initiative to establish a SCO Drug Control Center in Dushanbe were also discussed.

The parties also focused on the course of the development of the situation in Afghanistan.
