Tajik Delegation Attends High Level Symposium on Water in Lisbon

DUSHANBE, 29.06.2022 (NIAT Khovar) — On June 27, on the sidelines of the UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon, Tajik delegation attended the High-Level Symposium on Water.
The event commenced with the opening speech of the Minister of environment and climate action of Portugal Duarte Cordeiro, the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Daler Juma, Minister of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and cooperatives of Kenya Francis O. Owino, and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Liu Zhenmin.
Juma spoke about the efforts of Tajikistan over the past two decades to include water issues on the world development agenda, the implementation of the fourth initiative of President within the framework of the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028,” findings of the Dushanbe Second Water International Conference, the importance of glaciers in preserving and protecting water resources and the next initiative of the President Emomali Rahmon to declare 2025 the International Year of Glaciers Protection.
The High-Level Symposium on Water is one of the important preparatory meetings for the UN-Water Conference 2023.
