UN Deputy Secretary General Assesses International Initiatives of Tajikistan on Water Diplomacy

DUSHANBE, 16.09.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On September 15 in Samarkand, on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary A. Dicarlo.
The meeting focused on cooperation between Tajikistan and the UN with an emphasis on progress in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
The parties also focused on climate change and its impact on water resources.
Dicarlo expressed her gratitude to Tajikistan for its international initiatives and leadership in the field of water diplomacy at the global level.
The meeting also focused on regional security, in particular the situation in Afghanistan.
Muhriddin informed Dicarlo about the country’s approach to the events taking place in Afghanistan.
Dicarlo shared Tajikistan’s assessments and confirmed UN’s willingness to provide Tajikistan with all possible assistance and support in countering security challenges and threats.
