President Emomali Rahmon Attends First Central Asia –Russia Summit in Astana

DUSHANBE. October 14, 2022 /NIAT «Khovar»/. The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon took part in the first Central Asia –Russia Summit in Astana.

Also taking part in the summit were the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhammadov and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadir Japarov.

In his speech, President Rahmon expressed his gratitude to President Putin for his initiative to hold this meeting and the leader of the host country of Kazakhstan for organizing the event at a high organizational level.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries of Central Asia and Russia, Tajikistan was able to achieve a high level of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and other areas.

Satisfaction was expressed with the level of cooperation between the countries within the United Nations and other international and regional organizations.

President Rahmon noted the necessity of establishing cooperation in the areas of trade, transport, communications, education, countering new threats and challenges within the six-party dialogue.

He also highlighted the collaboration between the countries in the field of security, and in preventing the spread of extremist ideologies, countering the growth of terrorist and extremist groups, drug trafficking and transnational organized crime. He proposed to strengthen the coordination of the activities of intelligence agencies and competent authorities in order to develop and create new mechanisms for  the joint struggle against the aforementioned threats.

Regarding the political and humanitarian situation in the neighboring country of Afghanistan, Tajikistan’s readiness to provide humanitarian aid to the suffering Afghan people through the logistics centers was emphasized. Following the meeting, the heads of state adopted a joint statement.
