President Emomali Rahmon Meets the King of the Netherlands Willem Alexander

DUSHANBE, 22.03.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – On March 22, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, met with the King of the Netherlands, Honorable Willem Alexander, on the sidelines of the United Nations Water Conference — 2023 in New York, United States of America.
During the meeting, prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Netherlands and issues of the United Nations Water Conference on the mid-term review of the implementation of the International Decade of Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028», which will be held under the co-chairmanship of the two countries, were discussed.
The President of the country, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, expressed his satisfaction with the opportunity to meet on the days of the beginning of the International Navruz holiday and with the partnership of the two countries at the United Nations Water Conference.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the position of the countries in solving global water problems, climate warming, melting of glaciers and prevention and elimination of natural disasters related to water.
It was emphasized that Tajikistan’s global initiatives on water, climate and melting of glaciers were launched precisely in order to draw the attention of the international community to the growing threat that was supported by the countries of the world, including the Netherlands.
During the meeting, the results of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Netherlands during the 30 years of establishment of diplomatic relations in the political sphere, inter-parliamentary relations, various sectors of the economy, including industry and new technologies, agriculture, investment, finance and trade, humanitarian and cultural fields, education and tourism were discussed.
Cooperation in the domain of transport, development of green energy, processing of natural resources, creation of direct routes, establishment of a joint intergovernmental commission on economic, commercial and scientific-technical cooperation were assessed as future and priority areas of cooperation between the two countries.
At the end of the meeting, Honorable Head of State Emomali Rahmon invited the King of the Netherlands, Willem Alexander, to make an official visit to Tajikistan.
After the meeting in the presence of the heads of state, the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands was signed. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Minister of Infrastructure and Water of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
