DUSHANBE, 13.04.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, Dushanbe hosted the press conference of the newly appointed US Ambassador to Tajikistan Manuel Micaller.
According to the ambassador, the embassy will help entrepreneurs to improve the investment climate of Tajikistan and increase its technical strength.
“We are proud that the USA was one of the first countries to officially recognize the independence of Tajikistan and opened its embassy here,” mentioned he.
Micaller added that he will try to establish permanent cooperation with the Government of Tajikistan in the development of interstate cooperation and promotion of common goals.
The ambassador emphasized that the US supports security, economic development, healthcare, civil society and education in Tajikistan through special programs.
“Over the past year, the US has provided funds for high-quality equipment and specialized training to increase the capacity of the Tajik security forces. This assistance included modern equipment and new heavy machinery to create a more secure border, as well as comprehensive human rights training,” informed he.
Micaller noted that today, more than five thousand Tajiks are graduates of US government exchange programs, and we hope that this number will increase in the future. Last year alone, more than 1,600 Tajik citizens had the opportunity to travel to the US, and six months have passed since we conducted the first immigration visa review at our embassy, and more than 500 immigrant visas have been approved, and their number is growing rapidly.
According to the ambassador, he plans to visit all regions of Tajikistan, through which he will get to know the activities of eight American Corners.
“I am very happy to be here, to meet Tajiks, to get acquainted with Tajik culture and to learn about your rich history,” concluded Ambassador Micaller.
