DUSHANBE, 12.06.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – The relations of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with Tajikistan will develop and strengthen over the next ten years. This was stated today by the ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa following a meeting with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
According to him, the meeting focused on issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and the ADB. This year, Tajikistan and the ADB are celebrating the 25th anniversary of partnership.
“The meeting also focused on the issue of climate change, which is a priority for the ADB. From 2019 through 2023, the Bank is committing $100 billion to address climate change. From this amount, we will also help Tajikistan reduce the level of natural disasters, provide the country’s infrastructure for resilience to natural disasters,” said the ADB President.
Asakawa noted that the ADB will establish cooperation with the private sector of Tajikistan, which has not yet been in the practice of the Bank. Tajikistan is a young country in terms of population, it is necessary to use this rich human resource and invest in its development.
It should be noted that President Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Tajikistan and the ADB during 25 years of partnership, including the financing of 180 projects in various fields by this financial institution in the amount of more than $2.5 billion.
