DUSHANBE, 15.09.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – Following the Dushanbe summit, a package of five documents was adopted, the main one of which was the signing of the Joint Statement of the Heads of State. This was announced yesterday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin during a briefing on the results of the Fifth Anniversary Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia.
“In this strategic document, the leaders of the states of the region reaffirmed the exceptional importance of the mechanism of Consultative Meetings for the consistent strengthening of friendly relations between the countries of Central Asia. The heads of state advocated resolving all regional issues exclusively through political and diplomatic means on the basis of equality and respect for each other’s interests,” noted Tajik FM.
“It was emphasized that the United Nations is the only universal organization of global reach with universally recognized legitimacy and plays a central role in maintaining world peace and security and promoting universal development,” added Muhriddin.
According to him, in the context of considering security issues, the heads of state stated that countering terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, as well as other challenges will remain the focus of their attention.
In this regard, they agreed that the countries of the region will increase efforts at the national and regional levels to counter the spread of extremist ideas, primarily among young people.
“The situation in neighboring Afghanistan was examined in detail. Our leaders reaffirmed the critical importance of resolving the situation in this country and advocated its establishment as an independent, united and peaceful state. The heads of state reiterated the importance of creating an inclusive government in Afghanistan with the participation of representatives of the main ethnic, religious and political groups of Afghan society. They also reaffirmed their commitment to assist the brotherly Afghan people in overcoming the humanitarian and economic crisis,” said Foreign Minister.
