The flora and fauna of Tajikistan, despite the small territory of the country, is very rich and diverse. According to the latest data, more than 13 thousand species of animals live in Tajikistan and about 5,000 species of plants grow. The habitat of 80 percent of all species of animals and plants is in mountainous areas. Due to the fact that more than 70 percent of the republic’s residents use natural resources in one way or another, the degree of human impact on nature is especially great.
