Global Initiatives of the President of Tajikistan on Water and Climate Presented at the One Planet — Polar Summit in Paris

DUSHANBE, 13.11.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – On November 10, at the initiative of the French side, the One Planet — Polar Summit was held in Paris, which was attended by the delegation of Tajikistan led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin.
This meeting brought together heads of states and governments, high-ranking representatives of countries, researchers and scientists, heads of international institutions, non-governmental organizations, representatives of indigenous peoples and local communities as well as the private sector from different countries to discuss the challenges of climate change, especially the state of glaciers on the planet.
The participants exchanged views on the state of glaciers and the challenges related to them, and raised concerns about the existing problems in the context of the collapse of the cryosphere on a global scale, which can affect the population and the ecosystem in general, water resources and the rise of the sea level, and considered close international cooperation very important in this regard.
Muhriddin, while sharing his view on the subject, referred to the results of the conferences of the International Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028”, in particular the adoption of the Resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations on declaring 2025 as the “International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation” and reminded the efforts of the Government of Tajikistan in this matter and noted that the implementation of commitments within the framework of conferences and goals of the “International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation” will contribute to the achievement of the sixth objective of the Sustainable Development Goals and addressing other issues related to climate change on the planet.
