DUSHANBE, 16.11.2024 /NIAT “Khovar”/. Today, the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan No. 879 «On the accession of the Republic of Tajikistan to the International Union for Conservation of Nature» was signed.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature is an international non-profit organization, and more than 1,400 governmental and non-governmental organizations from 170 countries are members of the Union.
This Union considers the issues related to the protection of the planet’s biological diversity, develops and implements political measures and actions for the protection of the environment and sustainable use of natural resources, and supports projects in these areas.
Also, this organization provides information on the state of nature in different countries and a list of species of flora and fauna in different regions of the world for special protection.
Influencing, motivating and helping the world community in protecting biological diversity and ensuring the rational use of natural resources are among the main goals of the Union.
This Union has the status of an observer of the General Assembly of the United Nations and has a special position in the implementation of a number of international conventions on the protection of nature and biological diversity. Also, the Union directly participates in the establishment of the World Wildlife Fund and the World Conservation Monitoring Center.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature is the only global organization with a special fund for financing projects aimed at the protection and preservation of rare flora and fauna.
In addition to its member organizations, this Union has united 6 scientific commissions and branch secretariats, and more than 16 thousand scientists and specialists participate in the work of its commissions on a voluntary basis.
Joining the International Union for Conservation of Nature provides the Republic of Tajikistan with the following opportunities, including:
— access to the funds of the Global Environment Fund and the Green Climate Fund;
— access to the special fund of flora and fauna included in the global red list.
At the same time, the mentioned union, thanks to its rich experience in various projects in the field of environment and nature protection around the world, also helps in the development and implementation of these projects.
