“Ceremony of Mehregan” Officially Inscribed in the Representative Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO

DUSHANBE, 04.12.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – Thanks to the initiatives and tireless efforts of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and within the framework of the implementation of the cultural policy of the leadership of the state and the Government of the of the country, our traditional holiday — «Mehrgon» is officially inscribed in the Representative Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, reports by telephone the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to UNESCO Dilshod Rahimi.
The message of the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan to UNESCO states that today, December 4, at the 19th meeting of the Interstate Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Asuncion, Paraguay, the joint nomination of Tajikistan with Iran «Ceremony of Mehregan» was officially inscribed in the Representative Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Scientists from the Research Institute of Culture and Information of the Ministry of Culture of Tajikistan in collaboration with the National Commission of Tajikistan for UNESCO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs took part in the preparing of the documents of «Ceremony of Mehregan».
«Ceremony of Mehregan» is one of the ancient celebrations of the Aryans, which was revived thanks to the independence of Tajikistan and the constant efforts of the President. It is celebrated in Tajikistan in accordance with the Law «On Holidays», along with other holidays and dates, as a national holiday.
Also today, another joint nomination of Tajikistan with Afghanistan, Iran and Uzbekistan “Art of crafting and playing rubab/rabab” was officially inscribed in the Representative Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
