A Resident of Kulob Created the World’s Largest Doyra
DUSHANBE, 11.01.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – A young master of musical instruments and resident of Kulob Saidnodir Haydarov is the creator of the world’s largest doyra, a traditional Tajik a percussion instrument with a three thousand year history.
Doyra is created by stretching a hide over a wooden or metal ring. Various pitches and tones can be sounded by being struck with hands or fingers, differing with placement and pressure. Some masters and player prefer to have their doyras with metal rings placed near one another around the drum for a more impressive sound.
Haydarov’s creation, which he plans to get into the Guinness Book of Records, took 100 days to make. The largest doyra with a 1.7-meter diameter weighs 34 kilograms.
