Tajikistan assumes CIS chairmanship

DUSHANBE, 02.01.2025 /NIAT “Khovar”/. Since January 1, 2025 Tajikistan took up the Chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The plan of events within the chairmanship of Tajikistan in the CIS includes 113 events.
According to the Tajik Foreign Ministry, Tajik chairmanship will be carried out in accordance with the principles and norms of international law enshrined in the UN Charter, as well as the provisions of the fundamental documents adopted within the CIS.
“An innovative idea of the Tajik chairmanship will be the launching of a discussion on the improvement of CIS activities. In this context, special consultations will be initiated in the Republic of Tajikistan and the Executive Committee with the participation of interested ministries and agencies to develop proposals in this direction. This innovative work will be carried out in accordance with the Concept of Further Development of the CIS and other conceptual documents. The first expert consultations will be held on January 24 in Minsk,” added the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
For the first time in the history of the CIS on the margins of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly at the headquarters of the world organization in September 2025 will be held a joint high-level event on the interaction between the CIS and the UN.
The adoption of the next UN General Assembly resolution on cooperation between the UN and the CIS will also be facilitated. Efforts will be continued to develop and adopt statements at the level of heads of state and foreign ministers of Commonwealth member states on topical issues on the international agenda, covering the interests of all CIS member states.
