DUSHANBE, 09.06.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – On June 9, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, participated and delivered a speech at the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France.
The United Nations Ocean Conference was attended by 15,000 participants from 120 countries and more than 70 international and regional organizations, heads of state and government from 50 countries.
During his speech, the Head of our state, Emomali Rahmon, emphasized that today the preservation of the oceans, which cover more than 70 percent of the planet’s surface, has become one of the most important tasks of humanity.
The President of our country, Emomali Rahmon, stated that modern threats to the oceans are a global problem and require collective measures more than ever.
According to the Head of our state, although the Republic of Tajikistan is not directly related to the oceans, it plays a key role in promoting the water and climate agenda.
It was noted that Tajikistan’s global initiatives, particularly within the framework of the “Dushanbe Water Process”, have been bringing together UN member states and their institutions, regional, international and financial structures, civil society and other stakeholders for two decades to discuss global water problems and find solutions.
Reflecting on another global problem – the melting of glaciers, our Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, noted that glaciers, which are one of the main sources of fresh water, play an important role in maintaining the global ecosystem.
“Along with the unprecedented increase in demand for water, the rapid melting of glaciers and the reduction of their resources have caused deep concern for the international community,” — emphasized our Head of State.
It was noted that, in accordance with the relevant resolution of the UN General Assembly, March 21 is celebrated annually as “World Glacier Day”, and Tajikistan hosted the first International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation on May 29-31 of this year.
The President of the country stated that this event has become an important platform for discussing joint measures to address the issue of rapid melting of glaciers.
His Excellency Emomali Rahmon called the conservation of the ocean and water resources the task of all countries of the world, stating that this can be achieved only through joint measures and international cooperation.
In conclusion, the Head of our state, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, proposed to increase the number of global funds and the volume of investments to preserve coastal and marine ecosystems and areas of fresh water source formation.
It was hoped that today’s event would lay a solid foundation for the implementation of new commitments to preserve the ocean and underwater life.
