DUSHANBE, 27.08.2025 (NIAT Khovar) – On August 27, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, met with the employees of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant and activists of the city in Rogun.
After visiting the construction site of the power plant and getting acquainted with the construction process, the Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, made in-depth analyses and set specific tasks for the workers to expand the work and control the quality.
It was emphasized that the indicators achieved to date are better and more significant than during the visit last year.
Reflecting on the importance of the important facility in the energy sector, the Head of State stated that “by building and fully commissioning “Rogun”, we will ensure the prosperous present and future of Tajikistan and the happy life of current and future generations.”
The President of the country, Emomali Rahmon, stressed that the first two units of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant have produced 9.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity since the beginning of operation, which amounts to 2.1 billion somoni.
It was noted that in 2026, it is planned to replace the temporary working wheels of the fifth and sixth units with permanent working wheels, and with the implementation of this initiative, the volume of electricity generation will increase further.
When analyzing the status of construction work, it was considered necessary to ensure the speed and quality of construction work at the power plant, as well as to accelerate the construction of the dam at a high level and in compliance with international standards and to commission the next capacities of the power plant within the established deadlines.
It was emphasized that since the beginning of 2025, 4.3 billion somoni have been paid from the budget for completed works. In total, from 2008 to the present day, the Government of the country has allocated more than 48 billion 100 million somoni from the state budget and other sources to complete the construction of the power plant.
Currently, 18 thousand 300 workers and engineering and technical personnel work at the power plant, and the number of machines and mechanisms has increased to 3721. In particular, during the period 2024-2025, 443 new machines and mechanisms were brought to the construction site to accelerate construction work.
In order to expand the work and timely implementation of the construction plan, the Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, instructed the customer and contractors of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant.
The WeBuild Company was required to ensure the reservoir water level at a level of 1100 meters by the end of September this year by raising the dam within the established deadlines.
WeBuild Company was instructed to conduct work around the clock, taking advantage of favorable weather conditions, increase the number of machines and mechanisms, ensure the necessary volume of dam materials, and take practical measures for the effective use of the conveyor line.
Tajikhydroelectromontazh Company was instructed to prepare the construction tunnel of the fourth layer for operation at its full capacity by the flood season, that is, no later than April 2026.
Head of State Emomali Rahmon instructed the contracting companies to take additional measures to complete the work within the established deadlines and with high quality.
It was noted that the Government of the country is constantly paying attention to solving the social issues of the population displaced from the flooded area and is taking the necessary measures in this direction.
It was emphasized that the Directorate of the Flooded Zone has provided permanent housing and plots of land to 15,400 family members living in the first and second stages of the floodplain from the Nurobod district and Rogun city in the Dangara, Nurobod, Rudaki, Fayzobod districts and the cities of Tursunzoda and Rogun.
The Head of State pointed out that the construction of roads and bridges is currently underway in the construction site of the power plant and its surroundings, and serious attention is being paid to the issue of laying a drinking water pipeline.
In conclusion, the President of the country, Emomali Rahmon, set specific tasks for the relevant ministries and agencies, the Supervisory Board of the Rogun Hydropower Plant Joint Stock Company, the Rogun Hydropower Plant Joint Stock Company, the State Institution for the Management of the Rogun Hydropower Plant Flooded Zone and contracting companies in order to commission the intermediate facilities and the next capacities of the Rogun Hydropower Plant within the established deadlines.
After the speech of the President of the country, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Kokhir Rasulzoda, reported on the progress of work at the Rogun Hydropower Plant, in particular, he informed that work is continuing in all directions with enthusiasm. He expressed confidence that all the instructions and recommendations of the Leader of the Nation will be implemented in a timely manner and with high quality to achieve energy independence for the country by August 2027.
