Tajikistan increased its number of preschool institutions to 795 in 2025, up 38 from 2024, the government announced on January 23.
To expand access to early childhood education, 3,154 child development centers have been established under general education institutions, currently serving 182.7 thousand children nationwide.
In line with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, and taking into account population growth, plans are underway to establish at least one preschool institution in every settlement with 100 families in the coming years.
In his Address to the Majlisi Oli on December 28, 2024, President Emomali Rahmon emphasized the need for further measures in the education sector. He instructed the Government, the Ministry of Education and Science, and local executive authorities to ensure the construction of 800 preschool educational institutions over the next five years, using all available sources of funding, with the goal of covering 50 percent of preschool-aged children.
It is worth recalling that the Program for the Development of Preschool Institutions and Private General Education for 2022–2027 was adopted on September 30, 2022. The program is being implemented in two stages. During the first stage (2022–2024), the number of preschool institutions increased significantly. The second stage will be carried out from 2025 to 2027.
