Tajik, French Lawmakers Highlight Stronger Interparliamentary Ties

Deputy Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Mavsuma Muini met with a delegation of senators from the French Senate friendship group for cooperation with Central Asian countries, led by Hervé Moret, Khovar reported, citing the Majlisi namoyandagon.
The sides discussed the current state and prospects of Tajikistan-France relations, expressing satisfaction with their development and emphasizing cooperation based on mutual respect, historical ties and shared values.
They noted that, thanks to the political will of President Emomali Rahmon and French President Emmanuel Macron, bilateral ties have reached a new level in recent years.
Both sides underscored the importance of interparliamentary cooperation as a tool for strengthening trust and expanding political dialogue, highlighting the role of friendship groups. They called for more active engagement within the France-Central Asia friendship group and broader direct contacts between lawmakers.
Discussions also covered expanding cooperation in legislative exchange, sustainable development, environmental protection, digitalization and strengthening democratic institutions.
The parties expressed readiness to coordinate positions within international parliamentary platforms, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
They also focused on boosting trade and economic ties. Tajikistan’s “open door” policy and favorable investment climate were highlighted, with interest expressed in cooperation in industry, energy, infrastructure, metallurgy and healthcare.
Cultural and humanitarian ties were also emphasized, including the exhibition “Tajikistan — Country of Golden Rivers” held at the Guimet National Museum of Asian Art in Paris as an example of cultural exchange.
The sides also discussed cooperation in science and education, as well as security issues, stressing the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.
They agreed to continue constructive dialogue and hold their next meeting in Paris during a future visit by a Tajik parliamentary delegation.
