Tajikistan-Backed UNESCAP Resolution Boosts Regional Transport Connectivity

On April 24, 2026, within the framework of the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), a resolution entitled “Strengthening Cooperation in Transport Connectivity and Logistics for Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region,” proposed by the Republic of Tajikistan, was adopted.
The resolution was advanced under the leadership of the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, and represents an important step toward the development of sustainable, inclusive, and integrated transport systems in the region. The document reflects current challenges in the sector and aligns with key international frameworks, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport (2026–2035).
Tajikistan, as a developing landlocked country, places special emphasis on the development of transit connectivity. The resolution highlights the need to take into account the specific needs of such countries and provides for strengthening cooperation with transit states and international partners.
The adopted resolution will contribute to the development of transport infrastructure, the strengthening of regional and interregional connectivity, and the enhancement of the resilience of logistics chains. Its implementation is expected to promote trade growth, attract investment, create new jobs, and improve the well-being of populations across the region.
The Republic of Tajikistan reaffirmed its readiness to actively support the implementation of the resolution’s provisions, enhance regional cooperation, exchange best practices, and advance joint initiatives in the field of sustainable transport.
