On April 6, Tajikistan and the United States signed a five-year memorandum of cooperation in the health sector, the Health Ministry said.

Jamoliddin Abdullozoda, Tajikistan’s minister of health and social protection, and Relits Roker, chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan, signed the agreement in Dushanbe.

The document outlines joint commitments to support Tajikistan’s national health priorities, including the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, and to strengthen global health security by improving systems for detecting and responding to infectious diseases.

Planned activities include developing a unified national disease surveillance and response system, upgrading laboratory networks, improving information systems and enhancing coordination mechanisms.

The memorandum also supports government efforts to strengthen the health workforce and expand the use of digital technologies to improve the quality of medical services nationwide.

The United States will provide financial and technical assistance in coordination with the Tajik government and in line with national strategies.

Total joint investment under the agreement through 2030 is expected to reach about $78 million, including $38 million from the United States and $40 million from Tajikistan.
