President Emomali Rahmon Awarded UN University for Peace Recognition for Global Peace and Climate Leadership

On May 25, a ceremony was held at the Palace of the Nation to present President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon with a Certificate of Recognition from the United Nations University for Peace.
The prestigious award was presented to Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon in recognition of his significant contribution to peace, the development of regional cooperation, and his consistent efforts to strengthen friendship and mutual understanding among peoples. Particular recognition was given to the signing of the historic agreement on resolving state border issues between Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, the adoption of the Khujand Declaration on Eternal Friendship, and the promotion of global initiatives on water and climate protection.
The Leader of the Nation’s contribution to the implementation of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” the adoption of the resolution on the International Decade of Cryospheric Sciences, and the launch of the initiative titled “Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations” was also highlighted.
The award was approved by order of the Rector of the United Nations University for Peace, Dr. Francisco Rojas Aravena, on May 19, 2026, and was presented to the Leader of the Nation by the University’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador David Fernandez Puyana. The award was established by the United Nations University for Peace to recognize distinguished individuals and states that have achieved outstanding success in peacebuilding and the promotion of peace.
This recognition reflects the significant role of the Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon in strengthening peace and stability in the region, as well as his efforts to advance the global water and climate agenda — efforts that have been acknowledged by one of the world’s most respected international institutions.
