On July 7, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, visited Shahriston district, continuing his working trip to the cities and districts of Sughd Province.

The Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, first opened a water line for the irrigation of 20 hectares of potato land, got acquainted with the projects for the development of 601 hectares of arable and pasture land for potato cultivation and irrigation of 1007 hectares of land in three villages of the Kuhistoni Mastchoh district, and visited an exhibition of agricultural products.

It was reported that the irrigation water line was brought from a distance of 500 meters with polyethylene pipes, and more than 200 hectares of potato land will be irrigated in this area.

In this area, seeds of high-quality potato varieties, including Somon, Azizi, Shukrona, Karimi, Ovchi and Ghonchi, have been planted, the yield of which will be from 500 to 700 centners per hectare.

During a visit to the potato fields, the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, gave instructions and recommendations to officials on the development of the agricultural sector and ensuring an abundance of fresh domestic products. 12 varieties of potatoes have been planted in the lands of the Shahriston district, and their productivity and growth are now very good.

The project to develop new lands for potato cultivation is being carried out in four villages, including the villages of Vahdat, Mawzei Ovchi, Sebzor and Obodi, two villages of Shahriston and Bunjikat in the Shahriston district, and these lands will be irrigated through 25 vertical wells.

During the presentation of this project, it was reported that the farmers of the district are determined to increase the potato harvest to 100 thousand tons and make a significant contribution to ensuring food security.

The project for the irrigation of the lands of the Kuhistoni Mastchoh district has been implemented in three villages, including the villages of Obburdon, Hadishahr and Padask, and according to the plan, 822 hectares of potato cultivation area are now fully irrigated. Mainly, irrigation of these lands will be provided from the Zarafshon River.

In the same place, the Leader of the Nation also visited the exhibition of handicrafts of farmers of the Shahriston district.

The exhibition presented more than 30 tons of various agricultural products from peasant farms, such as potatoes, carrots, onions, fruits and vegetables, cabbage, tomatoes and cucumbers, watermelons and melons, apricots, peaches, cereals, honey, and other agricultural products in beautiful shapes and designs. At the same time, medicinal herbs, dairy products, bread, national dishes, and folk crafts were also presented.

After visiting the exhibition, the Head of State, Emomali Rahmon, held a conversation with officials and advised them to increase production, exports, increase cultivated areas at the expense of idle lands, and supply domestic markets with fresh domestic products.
