In his speech marking Tajikistan’s 35th anniversary of state independence, President Emomali Rahmon said the country has consistently advocated peaceful coexistence among nations and friendly relations with its neighbors.
“Throughout its 35 years of independence, Tajikistan has pursued a balanced, peace-loving and constructive foreign policy based on the ‘open-door’ principle, securing a respected place on the global stage,”Emomali Rahmon said.
He said Tajikistan is now recognized by 192 states and maintains diplomatic relations with 186 countries. The country is expanding friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation with most of them across areas of shared interest, while relations with several neighboring and friendly states have been elevated to the level of strategic partnership, he added.
Emomali Rahmon also highlighted Tajikistan’s active participation in dozens of international and regional organizations, saying it has enabled the country to contribute to efforts addressing major global challenges, including water, climate change, security and peace.
Since gaining independence, Tajikistan has initiated 20 resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, which are now being implemented, he said.
The latest, a UN General Assembly resolution initiated by Tajikistan declaring the “Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036),” is further evidence of the country’s contribution to international peacebuilding and its efforts to advance the global peace agenda, Emomali Rahmon said.
