On September 27, during the continuation of his working visit to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, visited the industrial zone of Khorugh to review the project for the construction of international institutes of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan and laid the foundation stone for the construction of these facilities.

The construction of new educational institutions in Khorugh is a continuation of the country’s development efforts aimed at improving the education system, strengthening the material and technical infrastructure of higher education institutions, and creating favorable conditions for training specialists who meet the requirements of the labor market.

In the context of the country’s rapid economic, social, and demographic development, improving the level and quality of education, advancing scientific research, and training highly qualified specialists are among the important priorities of state policy. Therefore, the establishment of modern educational institutions in the country’s regions is of great importance for developing human capital and strengthening the country’s social and economic potential.

During the presentation of the projects, the Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, was informed that the educational institution in Khorugh will consist of seven floors and will be designed to accommodate 2,500 students. According to the plan, construction will be completed and the facility will be commissioned by 2030.

The building will contain 48 classrooms designed to support a modern educational process, including 20 classrooms for practical training, four large lecture halls, and four computer laboratories.

To facilitate practical education and scientific research, 10 specialized laboratories will be established. These will include laboratories for tourism and hospitality, mountain tourism, the economy of mountainous regions, entrepreneurship and business, the green economy and sustainable development, digital technologies and artificial intelligence, climate change and sustainable development, as well as smart development of mountainous regions.

In addition, two specialized language-learning centers will be established to provide foreign-language instruction, helping improve students’ language proficiency and prepare competitive specialists.

According to the project, the fourth floor of the building will include a main lecture hall with seating for 1,000 people for international events, a conference hall for 150–200 people, and a multifunctional sports and cultural hall.

The new institution will also place particular emphasis on the development of educational and scientific resources. For this purpose, a Library and International Educational Resources Center covering approximately 500 square meters will be established. It will include a reading hall for 150 people, a digital library, group and individual workrooms, a research center, and an e-learning space.

To provide students with favorable social and living conditions, a dining hall and cafeteria with seating for 250 people are planned. This section of the building will also include dry and cold storage facilities, specially equipped dishwashing rooms, and other auxiliary spaces.

To promote a healthy lifestyle and provide opportunities for students’ extracurricular activities, the project also includes a sports hall, fitness facilities, changing rooms, and showers.

One of the key areas of the future institution’s activities will be the development of scientific research and specialized studies. The Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, emphasized that, taking into account the natural and climatic characteristics of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province, a Research Center for Sustainable Development of Mountainous Regions should be established at the institution.

The center’s activities will focus on studying the mountain economy, climate change, the sustainable use of water and natural resources, the development of the green economy, sustainable tourism, and the application of digital technologies.

Following the presentation of the project for the network of international institutes of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship of Tajikistan, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, laid foundation stones for new buildings in the cities of Khorugh and Istaravshan and in Vose district.
