On November 2, following the inauguration of several social and economic facilities and the laying of foundation stones for new factories in Shahriston District, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, participated in the Potato Festival.

The exhibition featured a wide range of agricultural products, including various types of potatoes, vegetables, fruits, and other products from local farming enterprises.

It was reported that in recent years, farmers in Shahriston District have achieved significant success in cultivating agricultural products and have been taking the necessary measures to increase production, ensure the efficient use of land, and supply the domestic market with high-quality locally produced goods.

It was emphasized that, owing to its favorable climate, Shahriston District is considered one of the country’s major potato-growing regions. According to the available data, agricultural production in 2026 reached 740.7 million somoni, which is 73.3 million somoni higher than during the same period in 2025, representing a growth rate of 111 percent. Agricultural crops were planted across 16,700 hectares of land in all types of farming enterprises.

President Emomali Rahmon was informed that the area allocated for potato cultivation this year amounted to 3,229 hectares. Potato production reached 56,394 tons, which is 12 percent higher than during the same period in 2025. This figure demonstrates an increase in production and the development of potato farming in Shahriston District.

It was noted that increased potato production contributes significantly to supplying the domestic market with locally produced goods, meeting the population’s needs, and creating favorable conditions for the further development of agriculture. To sustain this trend, the efficient use of agricultural land, compliance with agrotechnical standards, the use of high-quality seeds, improvement of irrigation systems, and the implementation of modern potato cultivation methods were considered important.

According to officials, alongside potato farming, the production of other agricultural products is also continuing in Shahriston District. During the current year, 31,870 tons of grain, 5,952 tons of vegetables, and 2,962 tons of fruit were produced. Furthermore, as of October 1, 2026, autumn crops had been planted across 2,774 hectares, representing 142 percent of the planned target.

During his visit to the exhibition of agricultural produce, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon identified increasing agricultural production, making efficient use of available land, improving product quality, and supplying consumer markets with fresh domestic produce as key priorities for the development of the sector. He issued instructions and recommendations to the responsible officials for implementing these objectives.
