Following the UN Secretary General Latvia wants to see a woman from Eastern Europe
The realities of the time require the election of a new Secretary-General of the UN woman from Eastern Europe.
About this in his speech at the UN General Assembly declared the President of Latvia Raymond Vejonis, reports UKRINFORM.
“Although we choose the most qualified candidate, we also recall that Eastern Europe is the only region whose representative has not occupied the post of General Secretary. I am also convinced that after 70 years it is time to elect a leadership position UN woman”, – said Vejonis.
He added that the position of Secretary General of the UN requires a fair amount of courage.
“The scale of the problems facing the world are huge. Global agenda requires leadership. Therefore, the next Secretary-General is expected more than ever. This important work requires courage and willingness to effectively resolve issues”, – said the President of Latvia.
Recall: the current Secretary-General ban Ki-moon was elected to this position in 2007. It is expected that he will retire at the end of this year.
