Issues related to refugees and asylum-seekers discussed in Dushanbe
DUSHANBE, 31.05.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, lieutenant-general of militia Rahimzoda Ramazon Hamro on May 30 met with the Head of Representative Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Vito Trani. NIAT “Khovar” has been reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the meeting, Interior Minister has expressed gratitude to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for her mutually beneficial cooperation in the sphere of working with refugees and for her contribution to the protection of the rights of vulnerable groups.
It was noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan is consistently working to organize work with refugees and asylum seekers in accordance with international standards. In this direction, a number of normative and legal acts, including the Laws of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Refugees” and “On the Citizenship of the Republic of Tajikistan” have been developed and approved, as well as were put into effect.
In turn, the Head of Representative Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Tajikistan Vito Trani has noted that the problem of refugees and asylum seekers has become global, and is considered one of the most difficult issues facing the world community. It is the subject of active discussion in the United Nations, which continues to seek more effective ways to protect and assist these vulnerable groups.
It was noted that in this direction the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, and certain progress has been made in improving legislation.
During the consideration of issues of protection of the rights of refugees, asylum-seekers and stateless persons, the parties presented a number of useful proposals, as well as expressed the hope to eliminate the existing problem jointly.
