Tajikistan calls on the international community to provide Afghanistan with targeted assistance and support
DUSHANBE, 20.09.2017. /NIAT “Khovar”/. “We cannot remain indifferent to the military-political and socio-economic situation in neighboring Afghanistan, it causes us serious concern. Today it is clear that lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan are a key factor in ensuring stability and security in the Central and Southern parts of Asia and other neighboring regions. In this regard, we consider it very important to further coordinate the efforts of the international community and take effective measures to solve the Afghan problem in a comprehensive manner”, — said on September 19 the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon during his speech at the plenary session of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.
The Head of State stressed that “We call on the international community to provide Afghanistan with targeted assistance and support in reviving its socio-economic life, developing transport and communication infrastructure. Tajikistan, which has almost 1,400 kilometers of the common border with Afghanistan, expresses its readiness to contribute to this noble cause”.
The connection of the transport routes of the two countries, the implementation of power transmission line construction projects, including the CASA-1000 project, the development of cross-border socio-economic cooperation, as well as education and professional training of specialists in various fields are among the areas that Tajikistan is currently paying attention to, — said the President Emomali Rahmon, and added that combating illicit drug trafficking, the proceeds of which are one of the main sources of financing of international terrorism, requires the collective efforts of the international community, including international and regional organizations.
“Tajikistan in this direction has established and is carrying out fruitful cooperation with relevant UN agencies and regional organizations, as well as with partner countries on a bilateral basis”, — concluded Leader of the Nation.
