Japan to Finance Several Local Projects in Tajikistan
DUSHANBE, 28.02.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – A grant-signing ceremony for seven new projects under Japan’s scheme of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) for a total amount of $558,045 was held yesterday in Dushanbe.
The grant contracts were signed by the Ambassador of Japan to Tajikistan Hajime Kitaoka and the representatives of the beneficiary organizations, including the chairmen of cities and districts of Tajikistan (Tursunzoda, Tojikobod, Rushon, Murghob, Khovaling, Mountainous Mastchoh and Asht).
Kitaoka wished the beneficiary organizations success in implementation of their projects and emphasized the importance of implementing socioeconomic development projects that will lead to bettering the living conditions and the quality of life in rural areas.
These financed projects are aimed at providing drinking water to the rural areas of Abdulvosiev in Rushon, construction of school No.11 in the village of Rajabov in Tursunzoda, construction of women’s center in Tojikobod, construction of regional hospital in the rural area of Gozho Berdibaev in Murghob, construction of irrigation canals in the village of Khudgifi Soya in the mountainous Mastchoh, provision of agricultural machinery to the rural areas of Khovaling and provision of equipment to the education center for adults in Asht.
Japan’s financing through GGP is provided to local governments, educational and medical institutions, as well as international nongovernmental organizations in developing countries.
Since 1996, GGP has supported 401 projects in Tajikistan with over $32 million.
