DUSHANBE, 03.10.2020 (NIAT Khovar) – The head of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan Saymumin Yatimovmet with the United States Special Representative for Reconciliation in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad, who is on a working visit to Tajikistan.

During the meeting, views were exchanged on the peace process between the Afghan government and the Taliban movement in Doha, Qatar,  the importance of restoring stability in the neighboring country for the region, and the role of neighboring countries in promoting the Afghan peace plan.

It was emphasized that the role of Tajikistan, given its long borders with the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and the many historical, cultural and language commonalities, as well as the prospects for strengthening economic and trade relations in the Afghan peace process is very important. Tajikistan’s historical experience in establishing peace, national reconciliation and ending the civil war is beneficial to all countries around the globe, especially neighboring Afghanistan.

Ensuring border security and enhancing professional cooperation between the security services of the two friendly countries is an important factor in facilitating the implementation of peace projects in Afghanistan and the region.
