DUSHANBE, 11.08.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – Yesterday, during negotiations with the Russian and Uzbek military leaders, the Minister of Defense Sherali Mirzo noted that the stability of Central Asia largely depends on the political and military situation in Afghanistan.
He named as a special risk factor the Afghan terrorists, writes the Russian news agency Sputnik.
Mirzo noted that the Taliban already controls northern and northeastern Afghanistan.
“If until recently the presence of foreign troops allowed maintaining a balance and controlling the military-political situation, their withdrawal intensified the subversive activities of terrorist organizations,” the minister said.
He stressed that the presence of terrorist forces at the border requires coordination from the countries of the region.
“Active terrorist organizations in Afghanistan have turned into an organized structure with an army equipped with modern weapons and a certain strategy of action, which is especially dangerous for the countries of the region,” Mirzo said.
The minister called on the world community and the countries of the region to respond appropriately to these threats with the involvement of the armed forces.
Noting that Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have a common border with Afghanistan, Mirzo stressed that the forces of the two countries are at an “outpost” to combat terrorist threats.
He also stressed the important Russian role, including the 201st military base, in ensuring regional security.
The minister called the joint negotiations with Uzbekistan and Russia, which took place on August 10 near the Afghan border, successful and added that all the tasks set for the military have been completed.
