Ministry of Justice Denies Torture of Prisoner Sayfullozoda

DUSHANBE, 09.10.2021 (NIAT Khovar) – The Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan issued a statement on its website denying rumors of torture of a former member of the Islamic Renaissance Party (banned in Tajikistan) Hikmatullo Sayfullozoda in the correctional facility 3/1 of the Main Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Sentences.
“The investigation of this case showed that on September 5, 2021 a verbal conflict arose between the convicts of the correctional facility 3/1 Hikmatullo Sayfullozoda and a former member of the terrorist group Rahmon Sanginov and Asliddin Tursunov who is charged under clauses a, b, c, d, g, j, z part 2 of article 181 and part 1 of article 186 of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan. As a result, Tursunov could not stand the insults of Sayfullozoda and beat him up,” reads the ministry’s statement.
According to the statement, on the same day, the correctional facility’s leadership sent Tursunov to a punishment cell for 15 days for violating internal regulations.
Preliminary medical examinations showed that prisoner Sayfullozoda did not suffer any injuries and did not seek medical help.
The false reports of some extremist organizations that prisoner Sayfullozoda was allegedly tortured is provocation.
