President Emomali Rahmon Receives Honorary Doctorate from Cairo University

DUSHANBE, 10.03.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On the sideline of his official visit to Egypt, President Emomali Rahmon was awarded an honorary doctorate from Cairo University.
Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt, and Professor Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University attended the awarding ceremony.
The honorary doctorate was awarded for his special contribution to the development and strengthening of friendly relations between Tajikistan and Egypt, and expanding scientific, security, humanitarian and cultural ties and especially global initiatives in water and climate.
President Rahmon noted that on the basis of the traditions of our ancestors we can establish and expand mutually beneficial cooperation between two countries.
Relying on the difficult fate of Tajikistan in the first years of gaining independence, President Rahmon noted that Tajikistan is known in the world for its unique experience of peacekeeping, as a promoter of peace and peaceful settlement of all conflicts.
It was stressed that since becoming independent, Tajikistan has been able to establish bilateral and multilateral relations with different countries and international and regional organizations, and strengthen its position in the international arena.
“From the rostrum of international and regional organizations, we are constantly advancing our constructive initiatives to address global and regional challenges, including water and the global climate crisis, the fight against terrorism, extremism, illegal arms and drug trafficking, cybercrime and transnational organized crime,» noted Rahmon.
While analyzing the political situation in the world, President Rahmon noted that in the security sphere, taking into account the common goals and tasks, the expansion of collaboration and exchange of information and experience between intelligence agencies of Tajikistan and Egypt is vital.
«We must work together to protect our countries and the Islamic world from the threat of terrorism and extremism, and not to tarnish the name of Islam,» he said.
Cairo University is the most important educational and research institution in Egypt and was founded in 1908. It is the second oldest university in Egypt and the third largest in the Arab world after Al-Azhar University and Al-Qaravi University. Its various faculties were established during the time of Muhammad Ali, such as the Al-Muhandis House (circa 1820). The modern education system was one of the most important developments that Egypt witnessed in the first half of the nineteenth century.
