Tajikistan’s communications market grew 13.7% in 2025 to 4.9 billion somoni, driven by rising subscriber numbers, expanding internet traffic, and continued growth in mobile and fixed-line coverage, according to a study by Nexign and TelecomDaily.
The report noted that market growth in Tajikistan remains significantly above the global average, which was 2.5% annually in 2024–2025.
Analysts said mobile penetration in Tajikistan remains at about 74%, or 7.8 million subscribers in a population of 10.6 million, indicating further room for expansion. Operators continue to deploy base stations in rural areas and modernize LTE networks, particularly in Dushanbe and other major cities, where demand for mobile internet and video services is increasing.
The study said Tajikistan is in the early stages of 5G deployment, with some operators already launching test base stations while others upgrade core infrastructure. However, high equipment costs, spectrum limitations, and financial constraints continue to slow broader rollout.
It added that 4G will remain the dominant technology through at least 2028, while 5G is expected to expand gradually in urban centers, business zones, and selected industrial facilities. Operators are also expected to expand bundled and unlimited service offerings, along with digital services in finance, entertainment, and small business solutions.
In the fixed broadband segment, the transition from copper lines to fiber-optic infrastructure is ongoing in Dushanbe and regional centers, though access remains limited in rural areas. As a result, operators are increasingly relying on 4G-based fixed wireless access, while many households use mobile internet as their primary connection.
The report also highlighted the emergence of satellite broadband following a licensing agreement with Starlink Tajikistan, which is expected to improve connectivity in remote and mountainous regions.
Nexign and TelecomDaily forecast the market will grow by an average of 7.9% annually from 2026 to 2028, reaching 6.15 billion somoni.
