The installation of modern “smart” traffic lights has begun in Dushanbe, with all signals across the capital set to be replaced, the city’s Interior Ministry department told Khovar.
The upgrade follows instructions from Mayor Rustam Emomali to align road infrastructure with international standards and improve traffic safety.
The project is being carried out by the Dushanbe department of the Interior Ministry in cooperation with the state unitary enterprise Smart City. The new traffic lights are equipped with automated systems that adjust signal timing based on traffic flow, helping ease congestion and improve road safety.
Officials say the capital has already installed 315 traffic violation cameras, 63 speed radars and 43 facial recognition cameras at 115 intersections.
An additional 137 surveillance cameras are operating at 350 public transport stops, while paid parking zones are planned at 575 locations. Of those, 300 sites are already in use, providing space for about 4,500 vehicles.
Under the “Bozdosht” (Interception) operation plan, authorities plan to install 117 cameras — including 19 already in place — across 68 locations to monitor vehicle entry and exit.
The Smart City program aims to enhance urban management, including traffic control, utilities and public safety, through expanded use of surveillance systems, digital control centers and data analysis.
