Tajikistan has expanded its industrial base more than 11-fold since gaining independence, with the number of industrial enterprises rising from 358 in 1991 to more than 4,000 today. Another 500 industrial enterprises and workshops are expected to be established by the end of this year, President Emomali Rahmon said in an address marking the country’s 35th anniversary of independence.

Emomali Rahmon said the government’s strategy of accelerated industrialization had provided strong momentum to the sector, making industry one of the leading pillars of the national economy.

Industrial production has increased 16-fold over the past 25 years, rising from 4.1 billion somoni in 2000 to 66.4 billion somoni in 2025, according to figures cited by the president.

Tajikistan produced 85 types of industrial goods in 1991. Today, that figure has surpassed 1,400, an increase of more than 16 times.

Alongside the expansion of mining and processing, metallurgy, machine building, chemicals, food production, light industry and construction materials, the country has developed new areas of manufacturing. These include lead, zinc, antimony and copper concentrates, metals, medicines, agricultural machinery, vehicles, household appliances, cable products and new construction materials.

“During the years of independence, the country began producing and exporting copper for the first time, and iron production will also begin next year,” Rahmon said. “In the past 10 years alone, 163 billion somoni worth of import-substituting products have been produced. This demonstrates that Tajikistan, through accelerated industrialization, is becoming a country that produces and exports competitive industrial products.”

Rahmon also stressed the importance of reliable electricity supplies to the country’s economic development.

“The development of industry, other sectors of the national economy and the improvement of the standard and quality of life of the people depend on a reliable supply of electricity,” he said.
