SCO Secretary-General met with Ambassadors of India and Pakistan
Dushanbe, 01.03.2016. (NIAT “Khovar”). – The meeting of Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Rashid Alimov with Ambassador of India to China Vijay Gokhal and Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Masood Khalid was held on March 1 in Beijing.
The SCO Secretary-General noted that one of the most significant outcomes of the Ufa summit (9-10 July 2015), undoubtedly, was the decision of the Council of Heads of Member States on the beginning of reception procedure of new members — India and Pakistan, which are already more than 10 years observers at the SCO.
R. Alimov has underlined that in accordance with the decisions of the Ufa summit, by the presiding side together with the SCO Member States and SCO Secretariat has done a great work in which finalised the texts of Memorandums on the obligations of India and Pakistan in order to obtain the status of a SCO Member State.
It was noted that the signing of memorandums would be held during the Tashkent summit that will be one of the most important practical outcome of the meeting of heads of state and will make a significant contribution to the development of the organization, which this year celebrates its fifteenth anniversary.
The SCO Secretary-General has expressed confidence that the reception of India and Pakistan as full members into the SCO will open new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation that will be benefit for all members of the “family” of the SCO.
We will remind that India and Pakistan have received observer status at the SCO in the Astana summit on July 5, 2005.
