Dushanbe, 15.06.2016 / NIAT «Khovar» /. Today, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received Army General Joseph Votel, Commander of the United States Central Command.
The issues of multifaceted cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States in the spheres of defense, regional and international security of mutual interest were discussed.
The Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the conversation said: «The Tajik side considers its cooperation with the United States in the field of security as an important factor in maintaining and strengthening peace and stability in the region, especially in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and notes that this issue has a special place in the framework of bilateral cooperation between our countries”.
At the meeting the contribution of Tajikistan in the fight against such modern threats and challenges as international terrorism and extremism and in ensuring regional security and stability was highly commended. In addition, it was pointed out that the level and quality of cooperation in mutual interests, its further steady development will contribute to further strengthening the capacity of Tajikistan in protecting the state border with Afghanistan.
Both sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest, including the strengthening of cooperation within the USAID, a joint cooperation in the construction and equipping of modern border infrastructure of Tajikistan, the training of qualified military personnel for the Armed Forces, capacity building of anti-terrorist and security units.
