President Emomali Rahmon meets President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping
Dushanbe, 23.06.2016 /NIAT «Khovar»/. Today, the Founder of Peaceand National Unity — the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in the framework of his participation in the Summit of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization met with the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.
The meeting discussed a wide range of issues at the bilateral level cooperation between Tajikistan and China, as well as in the framework of the SCO.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the development and expansion of cooperation achieved through joint efforts. He noted that the strengthening of the strategic and partnership relations with China is a priority of the foreign policy of our state.
The sides named the steady development of multifaceted cooperation in political, economic, military-technical and humanitarian spheres an important factor in ensuring regional peace and stability.
During the meeting the presidents discussed the issues of strengthening and expansion of relations in the spheres of economy, energy, attracting investments for development of Tajikistan’s economy, as well as the activities of joint ventures and cooperation in the agricultural sector with a view to the greatest possible export of agricultural products in China.
It was stressed that the trade turnover between the countries amounted to more than 200 million US dollars for the first three months of 2016. Additionally, it was expressed confidence that through joint efforts this figure can be increased up to 3 billion US dollars by 2020.
Also among the important topics of conversation were finding the ways of financing the construction and reconstruction of the Dushanbe-Kulob-Khorog-Kulma-Kashgar highway, new projects for the construction of new lines of electricity supply, as well as other projects of regional importance.
At the meeting the issues of joint struggle against modern threats and challenges were discussed, as well as finding solutions to the political controversies in the countries affected by war.
