SCO jubilee summit opens in Tashkent today
Dushanbe, 23.06.2016. /NIAT “Khovar”/. On June 23-24, a jubilee meeting of the Heads of State Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will take place in Tashkent under the presidency of President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.
The Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon today left for Tashkent of the Republic of Uzbekistan in order to take part at the annual session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
According to official web-site of the foreign ministry of Uzbekistan, the Heads of SCO member-states- President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev, and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin have officially confirmed their participation at the meeting.
Observer-states would be represented by President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj. President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi, Minister of foreign affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Zarif, as well as the guest of the presiding country- President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
SCO Secretary General Rashid Alimov and director of the Executive committee of the Regional anti-terrorist structure of the SCO Yevgeniy Sisoev will also join in the meeting.
Heads of partner international organizations- Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Jeffrey Feltman, chairman of the Executive committee- Executive secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergey Lebedev, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Nikolay Bordyuzha, Secretary General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh and the Executive director of the Conference on interaction and confidence building measures in Asia Gong Jianwei have also confirmed their participation at the SCO summit.
Deputy Minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan A.Nasirov informed that about 1000 representatives of SCO member-states, international organizations, as well as foreign mass media will arrive in Tashkent to partake in this event.
The upcoming SCO summit is a jubilee meeting of the Heads of State and is dedicated to the fifteenth anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s foundation.
In accordance with the summit agenda, the Heads of State will discuss the issues of further deepening multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation within the frameworks of the SCO, as well as exchange views on regional and international problems.
The main concluding document of the meeting of the Heads of State will be the Tashkent declaration on SCO’s fifteenth anniversary, which will contain the assessment of the activity of the organization for the last 15 years, agreed approaches of the member-states on the prospects of SCO development, as well as the position in regards the current international and regional situation.
The Heads of State will also approve the Action Plan for 2016-2020 on implementing the SCO development strategy till 2025 and a number of documents, directed towards developing SCO and strengthening collaboration among member-states.
The forthcoming SCO summit, in its essence, is a concluding event within Uzbekistan’s presidency, during which the Uzbek side has put considerable efforts on further improving the activity of the SCO, deepening interaction within the frameworks of the organization in the spheres of politics, security, economy and humanitarian ties.
On the eve of the SCO summit in Tashkent a number of meetings of heads of ministries and agencies of SCO member-states will take place. On 21-22 June a regular conference of the ministers of culture of SCO member-states will take place, during which the issues of further developing cooperation in the sphere of culture and arts will be discussed.
A meeting of the Executive Board of the Business council and the Council of Interbank association of the SCO will take place on 22-23 June, in which the participants will exchange views on increasing the participation of business and financial circles of the member and observer-states in trade, economic and investment cooperation.
A meeting of the Council of national coordinators of the SCO member-states will take place on 20-22 June to reach final agreements on the documents at the SCO summit agenda.
